The Magic of the Three Sister Mountains, "Faith, Hope and Charity", embraces the special needs horses of
Paso by Paso Equine Rehabilitation.
Horses forgotten or unwanted, often owners unable to cope.
Yet in the horses eyes, there is living Hope.
With a little magic and Faith to believe,
Charitable humans bring the horses a reprieve.
For our kindness and Charity our hearts do grow,
and the horses "healing Spirit" we begin to know.
Paso by Paso (which means "Step by Step") is a Charitable Non-Profit organization serving our Community. We rehabilitate horses (in a step by step herbal/supplementaion all-natural approach program) in the same manner human illness would be treated. This recovery is remarkable when conventional treatments have failed. Thus the example is set to help humans as well.
Our dedication is to those horses of "special needs" who are not saleable. We must limit the number of horses in recovery to ten in order that we can give each horse the therapy/treatment needed. Their example of recovery is of great inspiration to children as well as adults. Paso by Paso is a healing place!
“"No one is truly disabled except in their mind! The horse has the incredible Sprirt to show us that."”
Linda
What we do...
The experienced staff of Paso by Paso addresses each horse individually with specific Herbal supplements, Homeopathy and Physical Therapy designed for recovery of each animal. We all work on a volunteer basis with care to provide a comfortable and quality life for these worthy horses. Paso by Paso accepts horses from individuals or personally assists owners in the recovery of the health of their horses while educating owners on options of health rehabilitation.
Our approach is unique....recover the horses. Only natural herbs (which horses sought in the state of freedom they were designed to live within) are used to recover these horses. We are specifically dedicated to the Peruvian Paso horse because of his unique lateral movement which benefits the human body in a soothing gentle side to side movement. The Charity assits others & offers alternative treatments enabling them to keep and heal their horses. We have educated ourselves on foot care and advocate barefoot trimming. We have experienced the blessings of the "greatest of Teachers" (the horse themselves, once painfully lame), enabling us to trim horses successfully to soundness without pain. We are not financially accountable to any organization involved in politics or influencing legislation.
Our Goals and Direction...
To educate the public on natural methods of good horse husbandry. Presenting the difficulties facing horse owners today with alternatives to lifetime owning and caring for horses effectively and humanely.
To bring awareness to successful use of Homeopathic and Herbal Therapy in seminars and classes which give equine owners options for recovery.
To publish a newsletter with documented cases of recovery using Herbal supplementation.
To create a web site containing current information on all horses being stabled and treated at Paso by Paso.
To design and publish coloring books for children to educate successful health recovery on special needs horses.
Our Mission...
To charitably assist in the recovery of equines whose owners have sought help in keeping their animals pain-free. We also maintain a few horses as permanent residents of Paso by Paso because their usefulness to children and adults is endless. The hardships these animals have endured with dignity and perseverance enlightens, inspires and educates us all. Children often find the greatest comfort, inspiration and education from these "special needs" horses so connecting special needs youths with our special needs horses is central to our mission. Un-rideable does not mean unworthy. The horses are our best teachers and relate to children who often feel "forgotten" in todays hectic world.
Operating Policies...
Horses accepted by Paso by Paso must meet the special needs (charitable), category which are Equines whose illness can no longer be addressed by owners. We are dedicated to treat illness homeopathically rather than conventionally. However, conventional treatment is often required.
Owners sign a release contract assigning Paso by Paso ownership of donated or rescued horses. Some owners may be required to monetarily support the horse during the time of treatment. Horses may be re-homed after a thorough inspection of the adoptors facilities is completed and continuously monitored by Paso by Paso staff.
Our contracts require a horse will be returned to Paso by Paso if adopter no longer can maintain their horse. On-site decisions are handled by the Director. All other operating policies must be made by the vote of the Board of Directors consisting of three or more members.
Financial Statement...
Our costs on feed (hay) and supplements (herbs, vitamins, minerals) continue to rise and suppliers are unable to discount much. We need the help & support of our Community to remain a successful Charitable operation.
THE TENDER INNOCENCE OF A CHILD HEALS THE BROKEN HEART OF AN ABUSED HORSE
"Paso by Paso is dedicated to my first Peruvian Horse, Monteraz MSR, who, gave me his Spirit when I had none. And, to my niece, Tanya Fisher whose disabilities humbly inspire me to seek and share the healing powers of the horse.
Inspired by the virtues of the Three Sisters Mountains, Faith, Hope & Charity, our small rehabilitation center is designed for disabled special needs horses.
Here we have the blind Faith to believe the horse can get well, be able to see the Hope that exists in the horses eyes (no matter how bad the horse looks) and, have a human heart full of Charity to help the horses of Paso by Paso Equine Rehabilitation and Educational Program."

Our Vision...
In 1995, Linda Leigh Daniel faced surgery from car accidents she had suffered twenty-three years ago. Surgeons told her she would never ride a horse again. While awaiting surgery, she discovered an aged Peruvian Paso that was facing slaughter. His stresses in life had rendered him useless (no longer able to be ridden). The relationship they shared began the purpose and need for Paso by Paso. Thus began the dedication to the Peruvian Paso horse whose unique lateral movement provides physical & spiritual healing which medications, Doctors and Therapists often can not.
